It's really interesting to think that we call our country and our government a Social Democracy, yet many of us think we should resist Socialism in every form.

However, modern social democracy has deviated from socialism, and supports positions that include support for a democratic welfare state which incorporates elements of both socialism and capitalism, resulting in a mixed economy combined with a comprehensive welfare state.[2] Social democrats aim to reform capitalism democratically through state regulation and the creation of programs that work to counteract or remove the social injustice and inefficiencies they see as inherent in capitalism. This significantly differs from traditional socialism, which aims to replace the capitalist system entirely with a new economic system characterized by either state or direct worker ownership of the means of production.

Capitalism is great. But it has its serious flaws just as pure Socialism has its serious flaws. Pure Capitalism, where lobbyist run the government, not politicians, is the real problem in the U.S. today. The drive to resist Socialism in the United States was over when Communism went down in Russia. It was that kind of Socialism that we were determined not to have in our country.

We already have Socialism in the form of public services: fire, police, library,  public health services, and public utilities and roads and streets maintenance. Welfare is pure socialism. Our system of interstate freeways is pure socialism.

The healthcare reform being pushed today is just another program like any of those. So what's the big deal? I think what the opposition to the health care reform is afraid of is that this is a toe in the door to the Communist variety of Socialism and another rip-off of their money in the form of higher taxes, but they have forgotten that it was okay to have an interstate freeway system paid for by taxes. This country will never move completely away from Capitalism, but we do need more controls on Capitalism to avoid the disasters that we got into with our current healthcare system and free market.

Who is behind the resistance to the healthcare reform anyway? Big Pharma, for one. Big Business for another. They are in bed with each other. In fact, I think Big Business took over the pharmaceutical companies. They don't want to lose the grip they have on the economy.

It's time to wake up and realize who is really running our government and take it back with social, political, and market reforms that make sense.

All that said, neither you nor I have any real say in how our government will be run or whether or not socialized medicine in any form will become a reality. The decisions have already been made. This whole game is just something being played out to make it look like we're doing something about it. The real power rests in the hands of The Powers That Be (TPTB) that keep running our lives with fear-mongering rhetoric.

I can't wait for the ETs to announce themselves to the world publicly. Our current form of government and free market enterprise will be a thing of the past.
